The top 10 players returning to the Wyoming Cowboys for the 2020 college football season.
Important to note that this list is based upon last year's data and film from on each specific team as well as judgment based upon the player's position both his skill and the level of talent around him at the said position and influential cohorts. Positional value also plays a large factor in these rankings as does the offensive or defensive scheme.
1. Xazavian Valladay, RB
2. Sean Chambers, QB
3. Solomon Byrd, DE
4. Rome Weber, S
5. Garrett Crall, DE
6. Keyon Blankenbaker, LB/NB
7. Alonzo Velazquez, T
8. Chad Muma, LB
9. Azizi Hearn, CB
10. Ayden Eberhardt, WR
Honorable Mention: Logan Harris, G; Frank Crum, T; Rudy Stofer, T; Cole Godbout, DI
Valladay is a dangerous player for defenses. He can beat defenders in space either in the passing game or on the ground. It doesn't matter where he gets the ball, he's a threat to take the ball the distance every time. He recorded 159 yards after the catch last season, averaging 14.5 YAC/reception while he also bounced off contact to the tune of 851 yards after contact. He toppled 1,000 yards with ease and should do so once again.
Chambers is also a dynamic rusher and had 10 touchdowns and 28 first downs on the ground on just 87 carries. When he's on in the passing game as well, it's tough to stop him. He plays very well in the pocket but his athleticism shows if protection breaks down. Eberhardt should be the top receiver returning as he's put in a ton of work this offseason developing his skills.
On defense, Byrd is a fearsome pass-rusher and recorded eight sacks a season ago with a ton of other pressure. Crall is the same, getting home with five sacks but a team-high 44 QB pressures.
Muma and Blankenbaker should see the benefit of a bevy of tackle attempts with Logan Wilson now with the Cincinnati Bengals. Muma has great tackling skills and does a great job when blitzing while Blankenbaker plays a hybrid linebacker/nickel back role. He'll be tasked with a lot of coverage but a lot of run-stuffing requirements in his role.
