The top 10 players returning to the SMU Mustangs for the 2020 college football season.
Important to note that this list is based upon last year's data and film from on each specific team as well as judgment based upon the player's position both his skill and the level of talent around him at the said position and influential cohorts. Positional value also plays a large factor in these rankings as does the offensive or defensive scheme.
1. Shane Buechele, QB
2. Reggie Roberson Jr., WR
3. Kylen Granson, TE
4. Ar'mani Johnson, CB
5. Richard McBryde, LB
6. Delano Robinson, LB
7. Jaylon Thomas, T
8. Hayden Howerton, G
9. Rashee Rice, WR
10. Brandon Stephans, CB
Honorable Mention: Trevor Denbow, S; Turner Coxe, DE; Alan Ali, C
Buechele looked every bit like the former Power-5 starting quarterback that he was a year ago. He can hit every level of the field with ease and understands coverages better than anyone else in the conference. His high-level play should put him in the AAC Player of the Year discussion with ease.
Roberson and Granson are an absolutely tremendously talented duo that are almost impossible to account for. Roberson is fast and has great hands, and he should see a tremendous uptick in production as they have to account for James Proche's departure. Granson is a touchdown machine and should see similar numbers in 2020.
Johnson got torched at times but when he was on his game, no one was completing passes on him a year ago. The linebacker duo is tough while Thomas and Howerton should return in 2020 as the clear leaders on the line.
Rice is a highlight-reel kind of player who could break out with all of Proche's targets up for grabs.
