The top 10 players returning to the Michigan Wolverines for the 2020 college football season.
Important to note that this list is based upon last year's data and film from on each specific team as well as judgment based upon the player's position both his skill and the level of talent around him at the said position and influential cohorts. Positional value also plays a large factor in these rankings as does the offensive or defensive scheme.
1. Ambry Thomas, CB
2. Nico Collins, WR
3. Jalen Mayfield, T
4. Ronnie Bell, WR
5. Aidan Hutchinson, Edge Defender
6. Kwity Paye, Edge Defender
7. Brad Hawkins, S
8. Daxton Hill, S
9. Zach Charbonnet, RB
10. Vincent Gray, CB
Honorable Mention: Hassan Haskins, RB; Cameron McGrone, LB; Josh Ross, LB; Mike Sainristill, WR; Erick All, TE
Thomas holds the spot of top returning player by virtue of his incredible skill set at cornerback. He's rangy. He's athletic. He's long. He's extremely smart.
All superlatives that you can place on a cornerback, you can place on Thomas. He is also a solid defender in space and adds value in the run game as a filler. He's a true do-it-all for the Wolverines.
Collins and Bell are shaping up to be one of the conference's best duos at receiver and if you shake off a very vital drop by Bell from 2019, his first season was very impressive.
Hutchinson gets the nod over Paye because of consistency. Paye be may the better NFL prospect at this time but Hutchinson should get the lion's share of pressures between these two in the college game.
Hill has raw potential and seems ready to take make that breakout season while Hawkins is as rock solid as they come roaming around a Big Ten Defense. On offense, Mayfield was the most talented player on the offensive line a year ago and returns to anchor a youthful group in 2020.
Charbonnet adds value in the running game but to bring his value to any top 10 returning player list, needs to add some more value in the passing game. Unfortunately, as good as he may be, he'll be at the mercy of the quarterback play for the Wolverines in 2020.
Well, the whole team will, at that rate.
