The top 10 players returning to the Louisville Cardinals for the 2020 college football season.
Important to note that this list is based upon last year's data and film from on each specific team as well as judgment based upon the player's position both his skill and the level of talent around him at the said position and influential cohorts. Positional value also plays a large factor in these rankings as does the offensive or defensive scheme.
1. Tutu Atwell, WR
2. Micale Cunningham, QB
3. Dez Fitzpatrick, WR
4. Chandler Jones, CB
5. Anthony Johnson, CB
6. Caleb Chandler, G
7. Rodjay Burns, LB
8. Cole Bentley, C
9. Javian Hawkins, RB
10. Monty Montgomery, LB
Honorable Mention: Marshon Ford, TE; Robbie Bell, T; Tabarius Peterson, Edge
Atwell is the nation's top returning receiver not named Ja'Marr, and honestly, it's a close race for the No. 1 spot in terms of best slot receiver in the country, including Tutu, Chase and Purdue's Rondale Moore. Atwell has South Florida speed (it's different, trust me) and can beat defensive backs with an array of moves on his route from stem breaks to stutter steps and more.
The best thing about the Louisville 2019 team was the emergence of Micale Cunningham after he and Juwan Pass defined the word struggle just a year prior. Cunningham has terrific arm strength and a fluid throwing motion from all sorts of angles both in and out of structure.
Fitzpatrick is a quality number two receiver while the duo of Jones and Johnson at cornerback form a lockdown set of cornerbacks to man the outside. Johnson is the longer of the two but Jones' speed to stay with any receiver makes them a formidable duo to throw at.
And then there's Hawkins. He's got every bit of a chance to climb the rankings of ACC backs and he's honestly already in the top-three conversation. Him at No. 9 is no discredit to him, but rather a credit to how talented the rest of the Cardinals are this season.
