Top 10 Georgia Southern Returners in 2020

The top 10 players returning to the Georgia Southern Eagles for the 2020 college football season.

Important to note that this list is based upon last year's data and film from on each specific team as well as judgment based upon the player's position both his skill and the level of talent around him at the said position and influential cohorts. Positional value also plays a large factor in these rankings as does the offensive or defensive scheme.

1. Shai Werts, QB

2. Wesley Kennedy III, RB

3. J.D. King, RB

4. Randy Wade Jr., LB

5. Kendrick Duncan Jr., S

6. Raymond Johnson III, DE

7. Rashad Byrd, LB

8. Drew Wilson, T

9. Reynard Ellis, LB

10. Dillon Springer, DE

Honorable Mention: Lawrence Edwards, T; Caleb Kelly, T

Werts is the class of the option-rushing attack signal-caller in college football for 2020. Though they're a hybrid of the usual triple-option offense, Werts returns as the most experienced, most decorated quarterback from the limited schools that do in fact still run the option as their main offensive scheme.

Werts is a dynamic home-run threat on the ground with a more-than-capable arm when he has enough time to let routes develop. He's shifty in the pocket as well to buy more time and surprisingly doesn't look to just run it every time the structure breaks down.

Kennedy and King are two of the Sun Belt's top running backs and Kennedy takes the top spot here based upon last year's breakaway ability. He's a fabulous running back with space and will make defenders miss with elusiveness or power. King is a similar type of runner but utilizes the power a bit more due to his size and strength.

Wade and Duncan should hear their names called early and often during the 2020 season as they'll rack up the tackles, again. Johnson showed promise off the edge at times and if a consistent pass-rush builds, he could be next in line as a Sun Belt defender to make national news with double-digit sacks.

They're relatively deep this season but especially at tackle where they have a multitude of players with a ton of experience that can play with both Edwards and Kelly seeing duty and Wilson being their best lineman returning.
