The top 10 players returning to the East Carolina Pirates for the 2020 college football season.
Important to note that this list is based upon last year's data and film from on each specific team as well as judgment based upon the player's position both his skill and the level of talent around him at the said position and influential cohorts. Positional value also plays a large factor in these rankings as does the offensive or defensive scheme.
1. Holton Ahlers, QB
2. C.J. Johnson, WR
3. Davondre Richardson, S
4. D'Ante Smith, T
5. Ja'Quan McMillian, CB
6. Chance Purvis, DE
7. Gerard Stringer, CB
8. Tyler Snead, WR
9. Daniel Charles, S
10. Demetrius Mauney, RB
Honorable Mention: Sean Bailey, OL; Blake Proehl, WR; Fernando Frye, G; Hozey Haji-Badri, DI
Ahlers is the star of this up-and-coming team, and has been for going on three seasons now. He's a highlight-reel thrower and can carve up a defense on the ground as well. Limiting a few errant throws in games will be key to his development but he can sling it to all levels of the field.
Johnson was no stranger to big games and he has every tool at his disposal to topple 200 yards easy in their passing attack. Smith returns as perhaps one of the best tackles in the conference and likely will generate NFL draft buzz if he keeps progressing like he has.
The real key for this team in 2020 will be their secondary and if they can shut down opponent's passing attacks. They struggled at times last year but McMillion and Stringer had their moments in coverage.
This team will put up some points in 2020.
