The top 10 players returning to the Duke Blue Devils for the 2020 college football season.
Important to note that this list is based upon last year's data and film from on each specific team as well as judgment based upon the player's position both his skill and the level of talent around him at the said position and influential cohorts. Positional value also plays a large factor in these rankings as does the offensive or defensive scheme.
1. Chris Rumph III, Edge Defender
2. Marquis Waters, S
3. Jack Wohlabaugh, C
4. Deon Jackson, RB
5. Michael Carter II, CB
6. Jalon Calhoun, WR
7. Victor Dimukeje, Edge Defender
8. Rakavius Chambers, OG
9. Josh Blackwell, CB
10. Shaka Heyward, LB
Honorable Mention: Leonard Johnson, CB; Derrick Tangelo, DI; Brandon Hill, LB
Perhaps the best pass-rusher in the conference, and that's a conference that houses the likes of the FSU interior duo and the Miami exterior duo. Rumph is a supremely talented pass-rusher who got home more often than he didn't last year. He plays sort of a hybrid role because of his size but that doesn't affect him too much against bigger or smaller linemen, he just wins.
Waters and Carter in the secondary are keys to their defensive success in 2020, almost as much as answering their quarterback concerns will be. While Chase Brice is in the building to help at said QB spot, moving forward with a promising midseason stretch for Waters will be key. He was terrific for a three- / four-game stretch in the middle of last year but struggled in coverage down the back half.
Dimukeje needs to prove he isn't just a sack-or-bust kind of guy and he can find himself a lot higher on this list while Calhoun may see an uptick as well with better QB play in 2020.
