The top 10 players returning to the Appalachian State Mountaineers for the 2020 college football season.
Important to note that this list is based upon last year's data and film from on each specific team as well as judgment based upon the player's position both his skill and the level of talent around him at the said position and influential cohorts. Positional value also plays a large factor in these rankings as does the offensive or defensive scheme.
1. Zac Thomas, QB
2. Shaun Jolly, CB
3. Corey Sutton, WR
4. Demetrius Taylor, DE
5. Thomas Hennigan, WR
6. Noah Hannon, C
7. Neuzil/Hunter, G(s)
8. Nick Hampton, OLB
9. Shemar Jean-Charles, CB
10. George Blackstock, DI
Honorable Mention: Cooper Hodges, DI; Malik Williams, WR; Jalen Virgil, WR; Marcus Williams Jr., RB; Trey Cobb, LB
Thomas is one of the nation's most pinpoint accurate passers when he's on top of his game. He can find receivers open with ease while also possessing a strong enough arm to squeeze the ball into tight windows. He's the proven leader on an outstanding football program and should see nothing but success despite the third head coach in as many years for him at the helm.
Then there's Jolly, who would likely be the best player on any other Sun Belt team if he weren't behind Thomas. He's a shifty, speedy cornerback who plays the ball extremely well. He limits YAC and he limits receptions overall.
Sutton and Hennigan form a dynamic duo with Sutton presenting an incredible deep threat and Hennigan a reliable pass-catcher over the middle of the field with plus athleticism.
Hannon and his guard duo of Ryan Neuzil and Baer Hunter together form the best returning interior in the conference. They're a ferocious group who gets after in the run game, paving big holes while also possessing well-above-average pass-blocking skill sets.
Taylor is ready for a breakout on the outside while Jean-Charles should see a bevy of targets when quarterbacks avoid Jolly.
For Virgil to make the top 10 players on this list, he'll need to show more consistency at the catch point. He's by far the fastest player in the Sun Belt, likely in Group of 5 and potentially in the entire country.
