The top 10 players returning to the Georgia State Panthers for the 2020 college football season.
Important to note that this list is based upon last year's data and film from on each specific team as well as judgment based upon the player's position both his skill and the level of talent around him at the said position and influential cohorts. Positional value also plays a large factor in these rankings as does the offensive or defensive scheme.
1. Victor Heyward, LB
2. Quavian White, CB
3. Trajan Stephens-McQueen, LB
4. Shamarious Gilmore, G
5. Malik Sumter, C
6. Jaylon Jones, CB
7. Chris Bacon, S
8. Cornelius McCoy, WR
9. Pat Bartlett, G
10. Cedric Stone, S
Honorable Mention: Destin Coates, RB; Travis Glover, T; Hardrick Willis, DE
Heyward flies around the football field and represents a solid pass-rusher when given the chance to do so. There is no real lacking in his game whatsoever as he can defend the pass well, stuff the run and blitz the quarterback all at very high levels. Heyward is a sure tackler as well and it doesn't matter the size of the ball carrier either.
White and Stephens-McQueen are similar to that of Heyward, representing all-around threats at their position. White is a lockdown cornerback who is a solid tackler in space. With consistency in his coverage, he'll make the NFL leap no sweat. Stephens-McQueen may be an even better blitzer than he is anything else, and that's saying something.
Then there's the offensive line with Gilmore leading the charge for what feels like the better part of a decade now. He's played in a bevy of games since the 2017 season and has been an integral part of the rushing attack as well as the passing sets for the Panthers while Sumter is an every-down lineman with great pass-blocking and run-blocking to boot.
They, with Bartlett, make it easy to see why Coates is likely on the rise this year and should see a ton of yards filling the void left by Tra Barnett.
